I have no idea why I have the Popeye theme tune in my head. It reminds me of my grandad, as it was his favourite cartoon and, as he worked on ships when he was younger, I think that I subconsciously linked the spinach-gobbling sailor with my own dear grandfather. So here’s one for you, Grandad. This image is from ‘A Date to Skate’ (1938). Who can resist these two old romantics?
